The A’nger fabric is a special cultural attire of the Tiv people. It is a black and white striped fabric associated with the history of the people in connection with their love for the Zebra, which they used for meat and skin but they realised was not native to the area they eventually settled in. As such, when they acquired the skill of weaving, they wanted to honour their heritage by weaving clothes with black and white stripes to mimic the Zebra skin. Initially, they wore the material simply around their torso but over time have made them into elaborate robes that the traditional rulers and elders wear. The fabric is also accessorised with black and white beads. Read more about this fabric here
