BLK 026 Donut Design Adire Fabric

These batik fabrics have been dyed in rich colours after being waxed in designs that come in shapes of donuts.

The Yoruba tribe calls batik dyeing Adire Alabela, which means wax resist. The wax can be applied to the fabric using wood stamps, stencils, or foam rubber. Adire Alabela production started in the 1960s. Its dye resist is candle wax melting to liquid on fire.

We create our Adire Alabela by using foam pencil to draw designs or by using a foam stamp to place designs on the fabric.
